The United States has a very poor education system right now, much of which I know little about. What I do know is that the kids who are weighing down the statistics don't CARE about their own education. They COme to school simply because it is required by law and their friends are there with them. Even those who hear motivational speakers tell them about how their education is vital to their future, they continue down the wrong path.
My solution, one that is hardly recognized, lies in Elementary school (Primary School). At that young age, kids are able to be influenced easily. This is the time when teachers must make their students addicted to knowledge, to problem solving, to school. Once a child has left fifth grade, his or her course is set for the future. Thats why I find it funny that politicians always focus on High School conditions. Most every high school can adequately teach, but the kids can't learn.
You can't take a mold thats been rough-cut into a square and turn it into a polished sphere. It takes too much cutting.
