Google recently bought Motorola for $12,500,000,000. The merge was finalized when China gave them the go-ahead after a world-wide anti-trust assessment. The merge will give Google ownership of over 6,000 patents as well as a a solid, company-owned cell phone manufacturer. With hardware and software capabilities under Google's belt, they will be able to design a phone that works flawlessly with their Android platform.
After this big joining, Google seems ready to take on Apple where Apple excels: Phones. The one thing Apple had that no other high-end phone company had was control over the operating system and hardware. They no longer have this advantage. I can't wait to see what comes of this, but expect a lot of cool gadgets in the next few years.
